In a nutshell: Electricity rates in Mallorca are the same as on the Spanish mainland. The price fluctuates significantly depending on the time of day: On October 16, 2026, the regulated tariff (PVPC) averaged €0.215/kWh per day, ranging from €0.074 in the cheapest hour to €0.366 in the most expensive hour (excluding taxes, source: Selectra). By shifting your consumption, choosing the right contracted power (potencia), and using your own solar energy, you can save considerably.

How is Mallorca supplied with electricity?

Mallorca is connected to the mainland via a submarine power cable. Part of the electricity comes from the Spanish grid this way, with the remainder generated by power plants on the island and increasingly by solar farms. The grid operator in Mallorca is Endesa (e-distribución). However, you are free to choose your electricity supplier.

The additional costs of supplying the island are borne by the entire Spanish electricity system. That is why households in Mallorca pay the same regulated prices as those in Madrid or Valencia.

What makes up your electricity bill?

  1. Energy (€/kWh): The price for each kilowatt-hour consumed. Under the regulated PVPC tariff, it changes hourly; under open-market tariffs, it is usually fixed.

  2. Contracted power / Potencia (€/kW and day): The contracted capacity agreed upon in your contract. You pay for it every day, even if you do not consume any electricity.

  3. Grid fees and surcharges (peajes y cargos): Set by the government and identical across all suppliers. According to the OCU, these increased by around €15 per year for a typical household as of January 1, 2026.

  4. Taxes and meter rental: Electricity tax, VAT, and the monthly rental fee for the meter.

When is electricity cheap in Mallorca?

For households (Tariff 2.0TD), three time periods with different rates apply from Monday to Friday:

  • Valle / Off-peak (cheapest): 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM

  • Llano / Mid-peak (medium): 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and 10:00 PM to 12:00 AM

  • Punta / Peak (most expensive): 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM

On weekends and national holidays, Valle applies all day. Running the washing machine, pool pump, or charging an electric car is therefore most cost-effective at night and on weekends.

What is the potencia and how much do you need?

The potencia determines how many appliances can run simultaneously. If it is too low, the circuit breaker trips. If it is too high, you pay every day for capacity that you never use.

Many vacation properties in Mallorca have an excessively high potencia dating from earlier times. Checking your actual peak load via the e-distribución customer portal will show whether lowering it makes sense. However, if you have a solar system: the contracted power must be at least as high as the inverter's output capacity.

5 ways to reduce your electricity costs in Mallorca

  1. Review your tariff: Fixed price or PVPC, depending on when you use electricity.

  2. Adjust your potencia: Only contract as much capacity as necessary.

  3. Shift consumption: Schedule major energy consumers during Valle (off-peak) hours.

  4. Use your own solar power: Electricity from your own roof replaces expensive grid power, especially during the day for the pool and air conditioning.

  5. Get compensated for surplus energy: Unused solar power is credited to your bill, and with some providers, this can also be done via a virtual battery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is electricity more expensive in Mallorca than on the mainland?

No. The same regulated prices and tariffs apply as on the Spanish mainland.

Can I freely choose my electricity provider in Mallorca?

Yes. The grid operator is always e-distribución, but you can choose your supplier freely.

Is the regulated PVPC tariff worth it?

If you consume a lot of electricity at night or on weekends, often yes. For those who need a lot of power during the day and do not have a solar installation, a fixed price usually offers better predictability.

How do I find out if my potencia is too high?

Your consumption data shows the maximum capacity actually used. Sunglow will review this for free using your electricity bill.

As of: October 2026. Prices fluctuate daily; all information is subject to change without notice.
